“ LA COMPAGNIA DEL BELCANTO”

Milan “La Compagnia del Bel Canto” is a professional opera singers non- profit-making organization  which has been organizing a great variety of opera productions all over Italy since 2000 aiming at spreading opera knowledge on one side and encouraging and supporting young opera singers at the beginning of their careers.

Among the many performances put on by the Compagnia,  the following need to be mentioned: Aida at Milan Sforza Castle with 113 artists on stage, carried out in collaboration with Milan Municipality, The Merry Widow at the renowned San Babila Theatre which ran for 10 nights, and at the Dal Verme venue in collaboration with the Serate Musicali  organization.  “ Viva Verdi” is another important production set up in historical buildings and villas, in the open and  within one  afternoon only, of Traviata, Rigoletto, Trovatore and Aida,  on the  occasion of the “ Curt De Maisan” event.

La Compagnia del Bel Canto has also been staging for six years , a season of operas and operettas under the name of “ Invito all’Opera” –  Invitation to the Opera- in the Manzoni Theatre of Sesto San Giovanni , a town on the edge of Milan, sponsored by the Local government and the Regional authority.  Each year the programme has included three full-scale operas, three operettas, concerts and musical shows.

Through  The Accademia Del Bel Canto -Bel Canto Academy- always centred in Sesto San Giovanni , The Compagnia del bel Canto provides a range of training courses  suitable  for all ages and  levels in Opera and  modern singing,  individual coaching in opera roles and repertoire, piano lessons,  theory and  solfeggio, “ Stare sul palcoscenico” acting and stage techniques, musical singing and dancing for children and teenagers.  It also runs  an opera chorus “ Bel Canto In Coro” .

The Compagnia  organizes highly qualified Master Classes for professional  singers focussed on staging   operatic productions and each year in September an  International Contest for Operatic Roles in order to give opportunities to  young opera singers.

The Compagnia del Bel Canto is proud to have devised and realized an educational  project for compulsory- education schools “ La Scuola all’Opera”   aiming at helping pupils at discovering and appreciating opera. Nearly 300 people from Milan middle-schools have attended a performance of Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini in the Puccini hall at Milan Conservatoire “G. Verdi”.
